Final

        This piece is related to the community in the sense that we created a replica of the Maya Calendar to relate that we all have a different culture in this community. I wanted the background culture of most Latinos to be shown at our school to symbolize that there is more than one type of culture that we all share at KCAA. I got my  inspiration after watching the film The Barefoot Artist, it impressed me how she changed the community and impacted the people around there. Our piece is related to the culture of our population because we all share the same background due to our ancestors. The maya calendar was the calendar they followed to determine when the world was going to end, so we based that information to remind the community of where they got that estimation of the world ending.

This piece will engage non-KCAA viewers because we didn't direct our project towards just the KCAA students but everyone in general to remind them where they came from and what their ancestors did. We will also want our piece to show non-KCAA viewers of what we can create if we put time, effort, and a touch of your own story to change the community for something better. We are hoping that it catches the viewers attention and to have them learn a little bit about what symbols and numbers the Maya's used. Putting the time,effort, and touch of your own story into an art work changes the way you and others view that it, some people might relate to it and other might not understand it but they still see how much detail is out into it. 

        We decided to make our project permanent but also moveable to put it in different spots around the school to show everyone that there is diversity in this school when it comes to culture. I related each symbol as one person to show how we all need each other to be complete and without a piece the artwork won't make sense. In 25 years I would want my piece to be viewed as a symbol of unity because at KCAA we are all united as one and we achieve so many things with each other's help. As people viewed our art work and critiqued it, I noticed how they didn't really know what each circle was and how it's not just drawings and dots but numbers and days.  I wanted to do an art piece that isn't seen everyday and that it is from another culture. 

        After all this project was the most special project to me. I put all my effort to make it look the way I imagined it in my head. It took some struggles and it doesn't look very professional or perfect but it come out good and it makes me happy how people spend their time looking at it and giving me advice on what to do next time. It helps me become a better artist and learn from others that have different perspective. I want to come back to KCAA and see my artwork be an inspiration to others. 

Beautification critique

Three things I learned while doing the critiques is that people have different perspectives on my piece. I also learned that they don't know much about the maya calendar. The last thing I learned is a way to add originality to our art work. 

Finishing the stencil of the guy so we can spray paint it, sticking on the medallions onto the wood and installing it to the wall.

New years resolutions

My New Years resolution is to stay fit and be healthy and to try to be as active as I can. To get good grades of a B or higher in every class. To be more open minded about the things that are going on everyday,

Texture and balance project

Artists statement

        What do you imagine when you think of freedom? Birds? Maybe butterflies? Something that flys right? Well for this project I decided to  interpret butterflies as a symbolism of feeling free and created a multimedia art piece symbolizing texture and balance. Getting my motivation from my peers and mostly from Pinterest, I came up with an idea to do the background a painting of dandelions making them also look like they were blowing away to create movement. For the foreground I decided to do origami butterflies.

        Looking up the definitions and examples of texture and balance I had a rough time coming up with ideas on how to incorporate these two techniques to combine a finished art piece. The word texture has a lot of definitions but for me it meant, not making the surface of a art piece smooth, but something that you can visually feel without necessarily touching it. My principal of design was balance which means symmetrical and asymmetrical. Symmetrical means the visual weight of the design is mostly equal in the art. Asymmetrical means the visual weight of the design is imbalanced in the piece. Having those two definitions already in my brain I had to imagine how I wanted my art piece to end up looking like.

        I decided to add balance in the way I placed the hot glue balls on opposite ends of the canvas and painting one corner blue to blend with the sky and the other corner green to blend in with the grass. I did that because since it’s on each corner of the canvas it looks symmetrically balanced and I also thought it had a little texture to it because it’s something 3-D in a 2-D painting. I added texture to the butterfly wings by gluing on some glitter on them and making different patterns on each butterfly.  Adding the glitter to the wings makes a cool effect to look at because the little glitters shine when you move them around. You can also see if you look closely that they look rough on the butterflies because some of the glitters are pointy. I also think the colors I picked for the butterflies makes everything else stand out more. It gives you a feeling of peace and it's doesn't take you in different directions like too much is going on in the art. Texture, balance, motion, or any other kind of principle/element of design brings any art to life because it gives you a different feeling to the art work than just a simple coloring, which is what I tried to convey in my art piece for this unit.

Motion and space artist statement

What I created was a motion and space project using planets and space as my theme. There wasn't a lot of research I had to do to create my project, I had an idea all along. But what I did search was ideas on movement and I came across the colors of space and the galaxy and those sorts of things and that's what got my ideas working together to create my project. The steps I went through to create my project was obviously research, get inspired by things on Pinterest, then sketch out an idea that had my visual of what I planned my project would look like and create a procedure to make it all come together. What I had to do next is get the supplies, paint everything, and create the Galaxy and comets. Yes, I had a struggle creating my project because it was time consuming for the paint to dry and to add more than one coat of paint onto each planet. 

My project is design based because it's not such a difficult thing to create it it is more of a research thing you have to do.  I had to do a lot of research to create my project. There was no reason why I decided to do planets it's was just more of a idea to create and be done with it. One thing I would change about my project is create something more different, the end result i had with the project did not exactly look like the idea I had in my head. I would also change my whole project and make it look like a high school artist created it instead of it looking like a middle schoolers art piece. 

One thing I liked about my project is how my comets came out I spent a lot of time creating them and making them look as realistic as I could and added a little bit of texture to the paint. Over all I think my art work came out okay at the end I'm not super proud of how it came out but it's something I can look back in and change in the future if I want my career as an artist. My project shows movement because of the way the planets are spaced out. All the planets are not on there because I feel like we don't really know what is out there in other planets and I didn't put the planets in order because it makes it look more interesting. You can also see movement in the way I put the comets coming down like they are falling. 

Cesar- I like how you introduce what your requirements were before getting into talking about your work. Then the transitions on the steps add more details.

Loni- I love how you did not include all of the planets to have a perspective of space and used the comets to movement, some thing you could have added some black sheer with dots of white in different varieties in shape to create the effect of the stars and darkness in space.

Hugo- This artist statement was well written and well explained. I love how you used space to create this. I also love how you put dedication on your project to make it perfect.
